In 2010 there were 1,708 false alarms recorded. Of those 572 were non-residential and 1,136 were residential. Under the old City of Prince George's security alarm bylaw, property owners were given a warning on the first and second false alarm per year. A third false alarm in a year resulted in a $100 fine, a fourth $150 and a fifth (or subsequent) false alarm resulted in a $200 fine.
